To have that kind of perseverance students need to KNOW that it pays off.\u00a0 Sticking with learning and testing over and over until they win is a central lesson of <em>Rocket Math&#8217;s<\/em> daily practice and tests.\u00a0 Most days, most students do NOT pass the One-Minute Daily Test.\u00a0 They have to practice some more and try again the next day.\u00a0 <strong>If they try hard and do their best on each day&#8217;s test, eventually they do pass<\/strong>.\u00a0 This teaches perseverance like nothing else in the curriculum!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rocketmath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/students-writing.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-29426 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rocketmath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/students-writing.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"325\" height=\"218\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rocketmath.com\/stagingserver\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/students-writing.jpg 603w, https:\/\/www.rocketmath.com\/stagingserver\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/students-writing-200x134.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.rocketmath.com\/stagingserver\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/students-writing-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 325px) 100vw, 325px\" \/><\/a>(2) When taking a test, work as fast as you can. \u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Students doing <em><strong>Rocket Math<\/strong><\/em> learn that to be successful you have to work as fast as you can.\u00a0 Their individualized goals require that they write answers as fast as they can write.\u00a0 Students who pause to look at the clock or look around the room during the one-minute test simply do not pass.\u00a0 This may be <strong>the only time of the day that students experience the need to work quickly<\/strong> and they get immediate feedback based on whether or not they do work quickly&#8211;and it is something they care about!\u00a0 So they are motivated to work quickly.\u00a0 It is important for students to have that kind of experience if they are to learn the general rule that you are supposed to work as fast as you can when taking a test. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>(3) Skip what you don&#8217;t know<\/strong> \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rocketmath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Multi_SetL7x9.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-7567 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rocketmath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Multi_SetL7x9.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"262\" height=\"339\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rocketmath.com\/stagingserver\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Multi_SetL7x9.png 510w, https:\/\/www.rocketmath.com\/stagingserver\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Multi_SetL7x9-200x259.png 200w, https:\/\/www.rocketmath.com\/stagingserver\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Multi_SetL7x9-232x300.png 232w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 262px) 100vw, 262px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Have you ever watched a student waste valuable time working on a test item you knew the student wouldn&#8217;t be able to answer?\u00a0 Nothing more painful.\u00a0 Students need to learn to skip the items to which they don&#8217;t know the answer readily.\u00a0 <em><strong>How are they going to learn that without practice?\u00a0 Rocket Math<\/strong><\/em> has a progress-monitoring component&#8211;a weekly 2-minute timing you can see to the right.
