{"id":40656,"date":"2020-04-08T10:20:12","date_gmt":"2020-04-08T17:20:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rocketmath.com\/?p=40656"},"modified":"2020-04-16T11:38:41","modified_gmt":"2020-04-16T18:38:41","slug":"increase-play-time-over-five-minutes-you-can-do-it-but-should-you","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rocketmath.com\/stagingserver\/increase-play-time-over-five-minutes-you-can-do-it-but-should-you\/","title":{"rendered":"Extend play time over five minutes&#8211;You can do it, but should you?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rocketmath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/battery-recharge-break.20.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-40167\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rocketmath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/battery-recharge-break.20-180x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"239\" height=\"398\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rocketmath.com\/stagingserver\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/battery-recharge-break.20-180x300.png 180w, https:\/\/www.rocketmath.com\/stagingserver\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/battery-recharge-break.20-200x333.png 200w, https:\/\/www.rocketmath.com\/stagingserver\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/battery-recharge-break.20.png 541w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 239px) 100vw, 239px\" \/><\/a>Our 20-minute \u201cBattery Down\u201d forced break is a feature not a bug!\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Slamming through these facts at the rate of 3 seconds apiece (or less as they go faster) is very INTENSE.\u00a0 \u00a0Students will do this game for a couple of hours at a time if you let them.\u00a0 But, here\u2019s the problem.\u00a0 They will only do it for a couple of days, and then they will just wear out.\u00a0\u00a0<strong class=\"ac-designer-copy\">They just won\u2019t want to do it anymore.\u00a0<\/strong>We don\u2019t want them to lose their enthusiasm, so\u2026\u2026.\u00a0<br class=\"ac-designer-copy\" \/><br class=\"ac-designer-copy\" \/><strong class=\"ac-designer-copy\">After five minutes of play<\/strong>, up comes this screen (to the left).\u00a0 We say the battery is down and will need at least 20 minutes to \u201crecharge.\u201d The countdown timer shows the amount of time left until the student\u2019s break is over.\u00a0 The student has to take at least a 20 minute break.\u00a0 We want them to do a little practice a couple of times a day, but spaced out over a month or two.\u00a0 The it takes for them to get through an operation, (the longer this is spaced out) the longer they will retain the information.\u00a0 And they need to know these facts for a lifetime!\u00a0 So a little bit each day is far better than sitting down for long periods of time until they are sick of it.<\/p>\n<p><br class=\"ac-designer-copy\" \/><span class=\"ac-designer-copy\"><strong>We purposely planned for your students to end a session anxious to play again.<\/strong><br class=\"ac-designer-copy\" \/><br class=\"ac-designer-copy\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Yes, they may complain that they have to stop, but that ensures that they will want to come back again later.\u00a0 You want them to end their sessions wanting to play more.\u00a0 That\u2019s how you can get them to play and practice, time after time, day after day until they reach Level Z.\u00a0 That\u2019s how we win and that\u2019s how they win!\u00a0before the forced break.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span class=\"ac-designer-copy\">You can now increase play time to ten or 15 minutes, but should you?\u00a0 Only if they still LOVE it!<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rocketmath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/variable-play-time-available.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-40021 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rocketmath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/variable-play-time-available-300x156.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"517\" height=\"269\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rocketmath.com\/stagingserver\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/variable-play-time-available-300x156.png 300w, https:\/\/www.rocketmath.com\/stagingserver\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/variable-play-time-available-200x104.png 200w, https:\/\/www.rocketmath.com\/stagingserver\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/variable-play-time-available-768x398.png 768w, https:\/\/www.rocketmath.com\/stagingserver\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/variable-play-time-available-1024x531.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.rocketmath.com\/stagingserver\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/variable-play-time-available.png 1224w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 517px) 100vw, 517px\" \/><\/a>After years of game play lasting only five minutes at a time (under pressure from customers) Dr. Don allowed a change.\u00a0 We added a feature to allow you, the parent or teacher, to adjust student play time UP to ten or even 15 minutes. The option is found under on both the orange bulk Actions button and the Individual Action button.\u00a0\u00a0<br class=\"ac-designer-copy\" \/><br class=\"ac-designer-copy\" \/>But with this freedom comes a great responsibility.\u00a0 \u00a0<strong class=\"ac-designer-copy\">You have to make sure they are still enjoying playing!\u00a0<\/strong>If you increase the time, you have to make sure they are not getting tired of playing!\u00a0 The minute you hear a student moan or groan or complain,\u00a0<strong class=\"ac-designer-copy\">please move them back to 5 minutes!<\/strong>\u00a0Seriously!!
